The
sensational Divock Origi, the son of former Harambee Stars top striker Mike
Okoth, alias Mike Origi, roused many emotions in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in
Brazil, by scoring a solitary goal which propelled his country, Belgium, into
the second stage of the World Cup tournament.
Even to date,
a number of Kenyan's still wonder why the sensational Origi could not be
offered a chance to play for Harambee Stars, thereby freely releasing him to be
readily available for the Belgium national team. Well, that is now water under
the bridge.
Due to
Divok's outstanding performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the
internet went a buzz with many football pundits and analysts referring to him
as a 'Kenyan born'. Surprisingly, the true fact is that Divock Origi was never
born in Kenya. He was born and raised in Osted, in Belgium, where his father
was trading his football skills. Interestingly, his father, Mike Okoth was born
in Muranga, Kenya, around the year 1967, and not in the Nyanza region as many
have all along believed.
Now You Know.
